I really enjoyed designing this planting scheme for Cathal and his family in Cabinteely.

Acer palmatum, Dublin
The original Acer palmatum, now underplanted with another Japanese plant Hakonechloa macra. Heuchera, a soft fern (Polystichum setiferum), and the striking red blades of Imperata ‘Red Baron’ are in the bed behind it.

Their one existing plant in the garden was a gorgeous Japanese maple, which we used to set the theme an Asian-tropical feel with plenty of lush foliage.

Agapanthus, Persicaria and Astrantia. Dublin
Plating includes Agapanthus, Persicaria and Astrantia.

All the plants I suggested will suit the garden perfectly and are low to medium maintenance, just how most people like it!

Repeating key plants through the beds keeps everything tied together nicely.

The narrow Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ will fit will in the small space behind the shed.

Bamboo used for screening, Dublin
Fargesia scabrida, a bamboo with lovely red culms,  in these planters will provide a nice screen for the bins.

If the pots/planters have wheels, you can more easily move them out of the way when needed. The bamboo is suitable for this shady spot, which receives no direct sunshine.
