Elegant Ornamental Grasses in Clontarf

Front garden in July

I designed this planting scheme for Juliette and David in Clontarf.

They wanted an elegant, natural-looking garden with a focus on ornamental grasses and a soft, muted colour palette.

Back Garden in July

We planted it together in April, using a layer of cardboard topped with bark mulch to help suppress weeds and improve the soil as it breaks down.

In the front garden, we included Calamagrostis 'Karl Foerster', one of my favourite ornamental grasses. It has a lovely upright form and performs well even in semi-shade.

The back garden planting includes Miscanthus, bay, rosemary and plenty of Verbena bonariensis, adding height and movement throughout the border.

Just three months later, the plants are already establishing well. Probably a bit slower this year due to the dry summer, but I can't wait to see how the garden looks next year once everything has had time to mature and fill out!
